Fraser Shaw is a Scottish landscape artist, who lives and works in Argyll.
As a young artist he studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee where he was greatly influenced by the work of both Alberto Morrocco and James Morrison, who were resident tutors.

Although qualifying in graphics, Fraser’s interests gradually moved into painting and have now developed an original, distinctive and individual style. His strong and bold brushwork successfully records the essence of his subjects be they landscape or seascapes - producing textural paintings full of light, atmosphere and vibrant use of colour.

Fraser has been profoundly influenced by the Scottish countryside (and beyond) with his paintings reflecting his affinity with such wonderful natural surroundings. His return journey each day from Helensburgh to Dunoon provides him with an abundant source of inspiration.

“My inspiration is not just of the physical landscape, light and atmosphere of each day, but from the work of contemporaries such as Ian Elliot, John Piper, Ed Hunter, James Orr and the South African artist Derrick Van Rensberg. Their work shares the commonality of rich colour, surface texture and bold, impasto technique – a philosophy and approach which I greatly admire”.
